In October, they will propose to accept Bulgaria and Romania into the land Schengen

On October 10, the European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson and the Hungarian Minister of the Interior will present to the EU Council an initiative to abolish border checks at the land borders of Bulgaria and Romania.

As stated by the head of the European Commission's Delegation to Bulgaria, Yordanka Chobanova, it is expected that the decision on full membership of these countries will be made by the end of the year.

"We are already fully integrated into the decision-making structures within the Schengen area. We issue Schengen visas, which are in high demand by citizens and businesses from third countries. These visas provide free travel throughout the Schengen area - from Greece to Iceland. The European Commission provides full support to Bulgaria and Romania, and we hope that the final decision will be taken in 2024, strengthening the European Union," Chobanova noted.
