We'll sleep a little longer this week. On the night of October 26-27, Bulgaria will switch to astronomical time, and the clocks will need to be set back an hour.
In 2018, the European Commission proposed to abolish seasonal clock changes, giving EU countries the opportunity to choose between winter and summer time. However, this decision was postponed in Bulgaria, and for now everything remains the same.
The idea of changing time dates back to the 18th century, when Benjamin Franklin, in a letter to the editor of the Paris Journal, suggested getting up and going to bed earlier to make better use of daylight. Germany was the first to switch to summer time during World War I from April 30 to October 1, 1916, and Great Britain followed suit in the same year.
